What is AVID?

AVID is a program for students who have their eyes and hearts set on going to college and are motivated to work hard to get there.  AVID is a program to help you get into college and be prepared for success once you get there. AVID teaches strategies and skills to help students be successful NOW, in high school and beyond!  AVID students get a unique opportunity to visit a college campus grade not once, but TWICE during the school year.

All AVID students carry a binder to help improve organizational skills and regularly spend time keeping their binder in a useful order.  AVID students practice a strategy called Focused-Note Taking as well as practice higher-level questioning techniques, group work structures like Socratic Seminars, and Philosophical Chairs. AVID students participate in Tutorial sessions in order to gain a deeper understanding of their classes while collaborating with fellow classmates and tutors

How do I join AVID?

In order to be in the AVID program, students must apply and complete an interview process. AVID interviews take place during the 2nd semester. All 7th grade students will be invited to an informational session to learn about the AVID program and benefits.  You can also reach out to us with questions! Students are also able to participate in AVID during their four years of high school after they leave CHC. This is a great opportunity to build a strong foundation for your secondary and post secondary career.
